DOJ-Led Crackdown Busts Overseas “Pig-Butchering” Crypto Scam Centers, 276 Arrested The US Justice Department said a coordinated operation led by the FBI with law enforcement in Dubai, China, and Thailand dismantled at least nine overseas crypto scam centers targeting Americans and resulted in at least 276 arrests. The DOJ said the schemes typically involve building fake romance or friendship online, steering victims to bogus crypto investment platforms, and laundering the proceeds.
It added that the FBI’s “Operation Level Up” has warned nearly 9,000 potential victims and helped prevent an estimated $562 million in losses. — link
