French digital health firm secures NHS-validated GP platform, challenging Optum and TPP’s market dominance in UK primary care systems.
Doctolib has acquired Medicus, a UK-based NHS GP technology supplier, as part of a £100m investment into Britain’s primary care market. The deal represents one of the largest shifts in the UK’s GP systems sector in decades, targeting the dominance of Optum and TPP.
Medicus became the first new GP clinical system in 25 years to gain NHS validation in 2025, integrating with the NHS App and national infrastructure. The acquisition allows Doctolib to bypass high regulatory barriers and leverage Medicus’s existing NHS approvals.
Doctolib will retain Medicus’s leadership and team while integrating its AI and automation capabilities. The move signals growing competition in a historically closed UK healthcare IT market.
