The rebranded crypto startup shifts focus to blockchain-based tools for tracking AI training data provenance and licensing.
DATA Foundation, formerly Story Protocol, secured $140 million to develop blockchain infrastructure for verifying AI training data. The firm’s Trace platform will document dataset origins, licensing, and consent terms without exposing raw data.
The pivot follows the startup’s earlier work in intellectual property, now targeting the AI sector. DATA Foundation integrates with Kled AI’s marketplace, which holds 1.1 billion user-contributed records, and plans fraud-detection tools for compliance.
The rebrand includes appointing Kled founder Avi Patel as chief data officer to oversee the DATA Network, an onchain registry for AI data verification.
