His progressive challenger, Donavan McKinney, won the nomination despite the financial backing, marking a setback for crypto-aligned lawmakers in Congress.
Thanedar, a co-sponsor of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, had been a key ally for crypto legislation. Fairshake’s loss in Detroit contrasts with victories elsewhere in Michigan and Washington, where other PAC-backed candidates succeeded. McKinney, endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders, has no clear stance on crypto policy.
The outcome reduces the number of pro-crypto incumbents in the House but does not alter the broader trend of growing crypto-friendly representation in Congress.
