A 20-year-old accomplice in an international crypto scam was sentenced to 6.5 years for stealing $263 million in digital assets.
A federal court sentenced Marlon Ferro, known as ‘GothFerrari,’ to 6.5 years in prison for his role in a $263 million cryptocurrency fraud scheme. Ferro was part of an international crime ring that used hacking, coercion, and burglary to steal digital assets from victims over two years.
The group targeted individuals through fraudulent calls, database breaches, and money laundering. When victims refused to surrender crypto access, Ferro burglarized homes to steal hardware wallets. In one case, he took 100 bitcoin worth over $5 million. Ferro was also ordered to pay $2.5 million in restitution and serve three years of supervised release.
Authorities described the scheme as a blend of online fraud and physical theft, highlighting the growing sophistication of crypto-related crimes.
