Coupang’s Rocket Now service in Japan hits 6 million downloads since January, challenging Uber Eats with a no-fee delivery model.
Coupang Inc (CPNG) has seen its Rocket Now delivery service surpass 6 million app downloads in Japan since its January 2025 launch. The service competes directly with Uber Eats and other incumbents by offering free delivery and no service fees, matching restaurant menu prices.
The model has attracted over 10,000 restaurant partners across Japan, driving order volumes while reducing costs for customers. Coupang’s country manager for Japan stated the fee structure was negotiated to benefit both parties.
While currently focused on meal deliveries, Rocket Now is exploring opportunities in groceries and prescription drugs. Coupang’s expansion in Japan contrasts with its core markets in South Korea and Taiwan, where it operates as a broader e-commerce platform.
