Comcast reports declining broadband subscribers and revenue amid rising competition from fiber, fixed wireless, and satellite providers.
Comcast lost 167,000 U.S. broadband customers in the second quarter, driving a 5.5% year-over-year revenue decline in the segment. The drop follows last year’s Xfinity price hikes and intensifying competition from T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and SpaceX’s Starlink, which now serves over 9 million customers.
The company cited aggressive industry promotions, expanding fiber networks, and emerging satellite alternatives as key challenges. Comcast’s CFO warned of sustained competitive pressure, noting that fixed wireless and convergence-based offers remain elevated.
To counter losses, Comcast launched Xfinity Shield, an AI-driven cybersecurity and home monitoring platform. The service aims to enhance customer retention by adding advanced protection tiers to existing internet plans.
