The settlement resolves a class-action lawsuit alleging inadequate data security exposed millions of customers’ personal information last year.
Comcast will pay $117.5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit following a 2023 cybersecurity breach that compromised personal data of millions of Xfinity customers. The breach exposed usernames, passwords, contact details, birth dates, and partial Social Security numbers.
The lawsuit claimed Comcast failed to protect customer information and maintained insufficient data security measures. The company denied wrongdoing but notified affected customers in December 2023. Only those who received a breach notification are eligible for payouts.
Claims for the settlement are now open, with eligibility limited to current or former customers notified of the breach. Payments and deadlines will be detailed on the settlement website.
