Base’s new tool enables AI agents to execute crypto transfers, swaps, and balance checks via user-approved transactions.
Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, Base, has launched a tool allowing AI agents to interact with crypto wallets for transactions. The Base MCP (Model Context Protocol) enables users to request fund transfers, token swaps, and balance checks through AI models like Anthropic’s Claude or OpenAI’s ChatGPT, with all actions requiring explicit user confirmation.
The tool integrates with protocols such as Uniswap, Aerodrome, and Moonwell, simulating asset changes before execution. Base emphasized that private keys remain inaccessible to AI agents, and every transaction undergoes the same review process as standard wallet requests.
Proponents argue agentic payments could become a key crypto use case, as AI models may face limitations accessing traditional banking systems. The development reflects broader efforts to merge AI and blockchain for automated financial operations.
