Roughly 7 million Bitcoin could be vulnerable to future quantum attacks
Coinbase’s quantum advisory council is urging blockchain developers to prepare for a post-quantum future.
The council estimates that roughly 7 million Bitcoin could be vulnerable due to exposed public keys and address reuse.
The biggest concern is what happens to coins that are never moved to quantum-safe addresses.
The council argues that the technical work of upgrading Bitcoin and other networks shouldn’t wait for consensus on what to do with vulnerable or abandoned coins.
