Eligible non-U.S. users gain self-custody access to fractional tokenized stocks backed by regulated custodian Alpaca.
Coinbase has introduced tokenized stocks on its Ethereum layer-2 network Base, allowing eligible users outside the U.S. to hold and trade fractional shares of Apple and Nvidia. Each token represents a direct claim on the underlying share held by regulated broker Alpaca, not a derivative product.
The offering enables self-custody wallet storage, trading on decentralized exchange Aerodrome, and use as collateral on lending protocol Aave. The tokens adhere to Coinbase’s B20 standard, which automates dividend payouts and stock splits without disrupting DeFi positions. Availability depends on jurisdiction and compliance checks.
Tokenized stocks can trade 24/7 via automated market makers, enabling real-time reactions to earnings or macro events. The move expands access to traditional equities within decentralized finance ecosystems.
