Cleveland Federal Reserve President Beth Hammack urged immediate rate hikes, warning that delaying action would create greater economic pain. She projected inflation to end the year at around 3%, missing the Fed’s 2% target, and noted the economy lacks sufficient restriction to curb price pressures effectively.

Hammack’s remarks reflect a hawkish stance, with her comments scoring 8.2 out of 10 on the FXS Speechtracker, above the historical average. She emphasized that financial conditions are not restrictive and that interest rates remain the Fed’s most straightforward tool for policy adjustments.

The Fed’s credibility hinges on delivering on its dual mandate, Hammack added, stressing that markets complement but do not substitute for Fed policy decisions. She also suggested the era of low interest rates may have been an anomaly.
