July trade data shows exports grew faster than expected, while imports missed estimates, widening the trade surplus to $112.5 bn.
China’s July exports rose 23.0% year-over-year, exceeding the 22.2% forecast but slowing from June’s 27.0% gain. Imports climbed 27.5%, below the 27.9% estimate and down from 36.0% in the prior month.
The trade surplus reached $112.5 bn, above the $107.0 bn consensus but below June’s $125.62 bn. Analysts had anticipated a slight moderation in export growth amid global demand shifts.
Markets are monitoring the data for signs of sustained trade momentum, though import weakness may signal softer domestic demand.
