US regulators advance crypto oversight discussions as Congress delays legislation, signaling potential rulemaking without the CLARITY Act.

The CFTC will convene its Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20 to discuss cryptocurrency regulations, AI, and prediction markets. The meeting aims to explore regulatory actions that could complement future congressional legislation, despite the Senate’s failure to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act before its August recess.

The CFTC’s announcement follows a similar SEC meeting planned for Friday, where the agency will discuss new rules for crypto asset investment contracts. Both agencies are pursuing regulatory frameworks independently, citing congressional inaction. The SEC emphasized it would operate within its existing authority until a market structure bill passes.

No immediate market reaction was reported, but the parallel efforts highlight growing regulatory scrutiny of digital assets amid legislative gridlock.
