CBOE is evaluating a plan to convert its existing Bitcoin and Ether futures into perpetual contracts, which lack expiration dates. The move follows recent regulatory changes by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, enabling registered exchanges to offer such products.

CBOE introduced continuous Bitcoin and Ether futures in December, with contracts extending up to 10 years. Perpetual futures, first popularized by crypto platforms like BitMEX, allow traders to hold leveraged positions indefinitely and have seen rising volumes in decentralized finance markets.

The potential shift aligns with broader adoption of perpetual contracts across centralized and decentralized exchanges, driven by regulatory clarity and growing trader demand.
