Chinese automaker BYD posted a 0.3% year-on-year increase in new energy vehicle sales in May, reaching 383,453 units. The gain marks the company’s first monthly growth since August 2025, driven by stronger exports and hybrid vehicle demand.

Sales had declined for eight consecutive months prior, with May 2025 deliveries at 382,476 units. Year-to-date sales through May totaled 1.41 million vehicles, down 20.3% from 1.76 million units in the same period last year.

Exports surged to 160,644 units, while plug-in hybrid sales rose 3.3% to 178,316 units. Battery electric vehicle sales fell 2.8% to 198,674 units.
