Bitcoin and Ethereum open lower amid geopolitical tensions and anticipation of a key U.S. inflation report.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) opened at $81,721.41 on Tuesday, down 0.5% from Monday’s $82,164.43, and fell to $80,496.47 by 7:18 a.m. ET. Ethereum (ETH-USD) dropped 1.3% from its prior open to $2,339.40, reaching $2,280.32 in early trading.
Investors are reassessing risk positions after President Trump described the Iran ceasefire as fragile. A Bloomberg survey forecasts April’s Consumer Price Index to rise 3.7% year-over-year and 0.6% month-over-month, the largest monthly gain since 2022.
Bitcoin remains up 11.9% over the past month but down 21.5% from a year ago. Ethereum shows a 2.4% monthly gain but a 6.8% annual decline.
