Broadcom’s new BCM68850 system-on-chip integrates AI processing to enhance broadband traffic management and edge computing.
Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) launched the BCM68850, a 50G PON home gateway system-on-chip with an integrated neural processing unit. The chip supports Wi-Fi 8 and is designed to handle AI workloads and high-bandwidth applications at the network edge.
The new product joins Broadcom’s 50G PON portfolio, which includes the BCM68660 optical line terminal chip and BCM55050 optical network terminal platform. The company said the launch completes its end-to-end 50G broadband offering, targeting network operators managing growing traffic demands.
Broadcom stated the BCM68850 processes large data bursts to reduce congestion and improve network stability. It also includes built-in AI capabilities for edge computing, predictive network management, and enhanced security features.
