BP removed its chairman after seven months amid whistleblower complaints about conduct and policy breaches, deepening leadership turmoil.

BP’s board unanimously voted to remove chairman Albert Manifold with immediate effect, citing serious governance and conduct concerns. The decision follows multiple whistleblower complaints alleging bullying, a confrontational management style, and improper use of personal devices for company business.

Manifold, former CEO of CRH, had served as BP’s chairman for just seven months after joining in October 2025. His appointment was part of a broader effort to refocus BP on oil and gas after a troubled renewables pivot, including the recruitment of CEO Meg O’Neill earlier this year. The exit marks BP’s fourth senior leadership change in under three years.

Manifold disputed the allegations, stating he was removed without warning and had worked to drive cost cuts and operational changes. The company has not provided further public details on the complaints or the investigation.
