Boeing has requested U.S. intervention to scrutinize a €3 billion loan package from the European Investment Bank to Airbus, calling for clarity on terms and compliance with a 2021 trade agreement. The request follows a June 29 announcement by the EIB, just days after the U.S. and EU extended a tariff truce over aircraft subsidies.

The 2021 agreement aimed to resolve a 17-year dispute by ensuring an open and transparent process for government support. Boeing’s letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer questions whether the loan aligns with these terms. The EIB defended the loan as standard, noting it carries interest and is part of routine financing activities.

Airbus and Boeing declined to comment, while the USTR and European Commission did not immediately respond. The dispute risks reigniting trade tensions between the U.S. and EU over aerospace subsidies.
