BMO Capital Markets has emerged as the leading financial adviser for metals and mining sector mergers and acquisitions (M&A), both in terms of deal value and volume, for the first half of 2026 (H1 2026), based on a league table from data analytics company GlobalData.

According to GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database, BMO Capital Markets provided advisory services for 13 deals totalling $17.9bn

In terms of deal value, Goldman Sachs ranked second, advising on transactions worth $15bn. The Bank of Nova Scotia came next with $10.8bn, while RBC Capital Markets and the National Bank of Canada completed deals worth $10.4bn and $8.4bn, respectively. Regarding deal volume, Canaccord Genuity Group secured the second spot with eight deals.

Moelis & Company advised on seven deals, while Goldman Sachs and the Bank of Nova Scotia were involved in six and five deals, respectively. GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “BMO Capital Markets was the top adviser by both metrics in H1 2025 and managed to retain its leadership positions in H1 2026 as well. “It registered year-on-year improvement in terms of deal volume and value, but the growth was more prominent in value, with more than a fourfold jump. “In H1 2026, BMO Capital Markets advised on five billion-dollar deals and its involvement in these big-ticket deals helped it register a massive jump in terms of value.” GlobalData’s league tables are based on the real-time tracking of thousands of company websites, advisory firm websites and other reliable sources available in the secondary domain.
