The iShares Securitized Credit Active ETF (SECU) grew its asset base from $470 million in March to nearly $920 million by mid-August, driven by investor demand for monthly income. The fund’s rapid expansion reflects inflows rather than share price appreciation, a distinction analysts emphasize for fixed-income ETFs with frequent distributions.

SECU invests in securitized credit, including collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) with below-investment-grade leveraged loans, though senior tranches carry investment-grade ratings. This structure masks underlying speculative exposure, contrasting with traditional bond funds that hold Treasuries or agency mortgages. The fund’s 900 positions exclude most conventional fixed-income assets.

Advisers caution SECU should complement, not replace, core bond allocations, as its credit risks correlate with equity downturns. The fund’s growth highlights retail appetite for yield-enhancement strategies amid low traditional bond yields.
