BlackRock introduces on-chain share classes for six European money market funds, enabling 24/7 transfers via JP Morgan’s blockchain unit.
BlackRock has tokenized $311 billion of its European money market funds, marking its first on-chain fund access in the region. The 12 new share classes span euro, sterling, and USD strategies across six funds in the BlackRock Institutional Cash Series.
Tokens are issued on Ethereum using JP Morgan’s Kinexys blockchain unit, which manages minting and acts as a bridge to traditional share registers. The structure allows peer-to-peer transfers and real-time visibility, targeting corporate treasury management and digital collateral use cases.
The move follows growing institutional interest in tokenization, with BlackRock highlighting modernized capital markets infrastructure as a key benefit.
