The asset manager tokenizes six Institutional Cash Series funds across EUR, GBP, and USD using JPMorgan’s Kinexys blockchain unit.
BlackRock has tokenized $311 billion of European money market funds, marking its first on-chain fund access in the region. The move covers 12 share classes across six Institutional Cash Series funds in euro, sterling, and U.S. dollar versions, enabling 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers and real-time visibility.
Tokens are minted on Ethereum via JPMorgan’s Kinexys, which acts as an intermediary between on-chain activity and traditional share registers. The underlying shareholder records remain with the fund’s transfer agent, while smart contracts manage wallet transfers for approved investors.
The launch follows BlackRock’s recent tokenized money market fund rollouts on Solana, Ethereum, and Tempo. The firm described the initiative as a step toward modernizing capital markets infrastructure.
