Three-quarters of iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF investors are first-time ETF buyers, expanding BlackRock’s traditional finance reach.
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) has attracted a significant number of new investors to the ETF market, with 75% of its holders having never owned an ETF before. The fund, launched in January 2024, now manages $48 billion in assets and holds 765,936 BTC, serving as a gateway for digital asset investors into traditional finance products.
The trend reflects a two-way convergence between crypto and traditional markets, as many IBIT investors later diversify into other BlackRock funds, including those tracking the S&P 500, AI, and gold. The shift highlights how crypto ETFs are broadening investor access to broader financial markets.
BlackRock views the Bitcoin ETF as a tool to engage a new demographic, potentially reshaping long-term investment flows between digital and traditional assets.
