BTC and ETH opened down 0.2% Thursday, extending weekly declines amid Middle East tensions and cooling inflation data.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) opened at $63,410.39 on August 13, 2026, down 0.2% from Wednesday, while Ethereum (ETH-USD) started at $1,878.08, also 0.2% lower. Both cryptocurrencies briefly recovered to $63,504.99 and $1,983.13, respectively, by 8:29 a.m. ET.

BTC’s weekly, monthly, and yearly trends have all turned negative, with declines of 1.8%, 6.5%, and 47.2% over those periods. The all-time high remains $126,198.07 from October 2025. Traders are weighing geopolitical risks, including the closed Strait of Hormuz, against signs of cooling U.S. inflation in July.

Market sentiment suggests the Fed’s potential September rate hold could support a BTC rebound toward $65,000, though ongoing Middle East uncertainty may limit gains for risk assets.
