BlackRock research highlights Bitcoin’s uncorrelated performance with major assets, bolstering its case as a hedge in diversified portfolios.
Bitcoin has emerged as a potential diversifier for investment portfolios, with its price rising from $575 a decade ago to $64,000 currently. The cryptocurrency’s low correlation with traditional asset classes like equities and bonds makes it attractive as a hedge during market downturns.
BlackRock’s September 2024 paper, “Bitcoin: A Unique Diversifier,” underscored Bitcoin’s historical lack of correlation with major asset classes over the past decade. The report suggested that Bitcoin’s performance could offset losses in other parts of a portfolio, particularly when equity markets decline.
Nearly a dozen spot Bitcoin ETFs are now available, simplifying access for investors. Bitcoin’s dominance, accounting for 60% of the total cryptocurrency market value, further solidifies its role in portfolio diversification strategies.
