Cryptocurrencies decline despite easing macro pressures as a hardware wallet breach siphons nearly $89 million in bitcoin.
Bitcoin fell below $63,000, dropping 1% to $62,800, as a Coldcard hardware wallet exploit drained nearly $89 million from over 4,500 addresses. Ether and other major cryptocurrencies followed, with ether down 1% to $1,858 and solana slipping to $73.
The declines occurred despite broader market improvements, including falling oil prices and lower Treasury yields, driven by optimism around U.S.-Iran talks. Bitcoin had peaked at $63,600 on Sunday but failed to sustain gains, while ether has not traded above $1,900 since last week.
The exploit, spanning three attack waves, has heightened security concerns in crypto markets, overshadowing positive macroeconomic trends. Only BNB remained flat, while other tokens like XRP and dogecoin posted modest losses.
