Bitcoin developers removed Luke Dashjr as a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) editor after accusations of bias in handling BIP 110. The proposal, which aimed to limit arbitrary data in transactions, triggered a minority chain split but failed to gain hashpower support.
Developers Mark Erhardt and Jon Atack led the removal, citing Dashjr’s alleged preferential treatment of BIP 110, including premature assignment of a BIP number and rapid merging of updates. The dispute escalated after Dashjr’s actions were discussed on the Bitcoin Developer mailing list.
Dashjr called the move an “abuse of power” by Bitcoin Core, asserting they lacked authority to remove him. The decision reflects broader tensions over governance and proposal management within the Bitcoin development community.
