The exchange will enter a two-year regulatory sandbox with BlockShoals Technologies to relaunch services in the country.
Binance has partnered with Philippine-registered BlockShoals Technologies to re-enter the Philippines market under the local securities regulator’s Strategic Sandbox program. The collaboration will see BlockShoals act as the local intermediary, while Binance provides technology, compliance, and operational support. The sandbox phase is set to begin in the second half of 2024 and run for two years, aiming to meet regulatory requirements before a broader rollout.
Binance previously operated in the Philippines but was blocked after regulators found it offered unregistered securities and lacked proper licensing. The Philippines has since tightened oversight of crypto firms, requiring registration, local presence, and compliance with anti-money laundering rules. Other exchanges, including OKX, Bybit, and KuCoin, have also faced restrictions in the country.
The Philippines remains a key market for crypto adoption in Asia, with high digital economy activity. The partnership marks Binance’s latest effort to regain access after regulatory setbacks.
