The 59-year-old sandwich chain permanently closed its company-owned restaurants and terminated staff after payment disputes and legal action.

Beef-A-Roo, a 59-year-old sandwich chain, permanently shuttered all company-owned locations on July 7, laying off hundreds of workers across seven states. The closures followed walkouts by employees over unpaid wages and a lawsuit filed against its parent company, Elysian Capital, by a landlord.

The chain had faced declining performance, with reports of understaffing, inconsistent food quality, and prolonged wait times in recent weeks. Elysian Capital initially described the shutdowns as temporary but later confirmed the closures were permanent.

Workers received layoff notices after the abrupt shutdown, which affected restaurants in Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kansas, and Texas. The legal dispute and labor issues accelerated the chain’s collapse.
