Mexico’s central bank, Banxico, left its overnight policy rate unchanged at 6.50% in a unanimous decision on August 6, aligning with analyst expectations. The bank described its monetary stance as appropriate to address macroeconomic challenges, including global risks, and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the current rate level.

Inflation convergence is now projected for Q4 2027, later than previously anticipated, with upside risks persisting. Analysts expect Banxico to keep rates steady through 2026 and 2027, supporting demand for the Mexican peso (MXN) amid comparatively higher yields. USD/MXN is forecast to trade between 17 and 18 over the next 12 months.

The decision reflects a cautious approach to balancing inflation control with economic stability, as the bank monitors both domestic and international developments.
