BGMEA partners with Chinese trade group to match local factories with investors amid technology transfer push.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is collaborating with the Overseas Chinese Association for International Business (OCAIB) to attract Chinese investment into the ready-made garment (RMG) sector. The initiative aims to address information gaps hindering Chinese firms from establishing operations or transferring technology to Bangladesh.
During a bilateral meeting, Chinese representatives highlighted strong interest but cited challenges in accessing reliable data on local business opportunities. BGMEA will compile profiles of member factories, including operational status, infrastructure, and partnership preferences, to facilitate targeted matchmaking.
The partnership follows growing demand for technology upgrades in Bangladesh’s RMG sector, which accounts for over 80% of the country’s export earnings. No immediate market reaction was reported.
