Canberra sources 100 million litres of jet fuel from China to mitigate disruptions caused by the Strait of Hormuz closure.
Australia has secured three shipments of jet fuel totaling over 600,000 barrels, or approximately 100 million litres, from China. Deliveries are set to begin in early June as part of efforts to address fuel supply vulnerabilities.
The procurement follows disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has impacted energy flows across the Asia-Pacific region. The move bypasses reliance on Middle Eastern supply chains, opting instead for direct sourcing from China.
Prime Minister Albanese also announced the acquisition of 38,500 tonnes of agricultural urea from Brunei, further diversifying critical supply sources.
