Apple received regulatory approval in China for its Apple Intelligence AI service, integrating Alibaba’s Qwen model across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS. The Cyberspace Administration listed Apple as an approved generative AI provider, though no launch date was specified.

The approval follows months of delays after Apple first announced the service in 2024. Apple is also collaborating with Baidu to develop additional AI features for Chinese users. Alibaba’s U.S.-listed shares rose 4% premarket on the news.

Apple’s China shipments surged 24.4% year-over-year in the second quarter, reflecting strong demand ahead of the AI rollout.
