Alphabet’s Google Cloud revenue jumped 82% year over year to $24.8 billion in the second quarter, fueled by enterprise AI adoption and custom Tensor Processing Units. Operating income surged to $8.8 billion, more than tripling from the prior year, while segment margins expanded to 35.5% from 20.6%.

The $514 billion backlog, with over half expected to convert to revenue within two years, underscores accelerating demand. Google Cloud’s growth outpaces rivals Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, validating Alphabet’s aggressive capex strategy as AI integration becomes a key differentiator.

CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the platform’s momentum, citing its integrated AI portfolio—including chips and models—as a primary driver. The quarter marked the first revenue recognition from custom TPUs, signaling deeper monetization of AI infrastructure.
