The contract for two Sentinel-1 radar instruments boosts Airbus’s backlog in Earth observation programs and European space capabilities.
Airbus secured a €345 million ($400 million) contract to develop and manufacture radar instruments for the European Space Agency’s next-generation Sentinel-1 satellites. The agreement strengthens Airbus’s role in the Copernicus Earth observation program, enhancing its strategic position in European space infrastructure.
The contract follows Airbus’s ongoing involvement in the Copernicus program, which focuses on climate monitoring and environmental data collection. The new radar instruments will improve observation capabilities, including wider swath width, better geometric resolution, and extended polar coverage.
The deal reinforces Airbus’s backlog in space systems, aligning with its focus on high-value Earth observation and climate-monitoring technologies.
