LinkedIn data reveals AI-related jobs pay over double non-AI roles, yet women secure just over a quarter of these positions in the U.S.
New research highlights a stark pay disparity in the AI sector, with median salaries for AI-related roles reaching $177,000, more than double the $80,000 offered for non-AI positions. The findings suggest the AI boom is creating lucrative opportunities for skilled workers, though access remains uneven.
Despite women accounting for 50% of hires in non-AI roles, they represent just 26% of hires in AI-specific jobs in 2025. Industry experts note that women may already possess relevant AI skills but are less likely to self-identify as AI talent, limiting their participation in high-paying roles.
The trend risks perpetuating gender pay gaps, as AI-driven roles command significant wage premiums. Employers’ narrow definitions of AI expertise may further exclude women from these opportunities.
