American Airlines reports all-time high quarterly revenue but warns rising fuel expenses offset earnings gains.
American Airlines posted record second-quarter revenue of $16.7 billion, up 16.3% year over year, driven by stronger demand across premium, corporate, and international travel. Adjusted earnings reached $0.15 per share, exceeding Wall Street expectations.
The revenue growth outpaced capacity expansion of 5.4%, with passenger unit revenue rising across all segments. Premium revenue per seat climbed 13.4%, while Main Cabin and domestic revenue advanced 8.8% and 10.6%, respectively.
However, an 83% increase in fuel costs largely offset these gains, raising concerns about the airline’s ability to sustain profitability amid rising expenses.
