The home-improvement retailer posted stronger-than-expected earnings and sales growth amid broad-based demand despite consumer caution on big-ticket projects.

Home Depot reported second-quarter fiscal 2026 sales of $47.9 billion, up 5.7% year-over-year, exceeding expectations. Comparable sales increased 1.7%, with U.S. comps up 1.3%, driven by demand across most categories.

Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose 5.1% to $4.92 from $4.68 in the prior-year quarter. Reported EPS was $4.79, compared with $4.58 a year earlier. Growth was led by 13 of 16 merchandising departments, including storage, electrical, and plumbing.

CFO Richard McPhail noted broad-based execution and positive comps in Northern, Western U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The company remains cautious on larger discretionary projects but sees resilience in core categories.
