Mud Jeans, a Netherlands-based circular denim brand, has filed for bankruptcy after struggling with historic debt. CEO Dion Vijgeboom announced the decision, calling it one of the hardest days in the company’s history.

The company, founded in 2012, pioneered sustainable denim with its ‘Lease A Jeans’ model and recycled cotton practices. It recently raised €1m from 800 investors in 2024 and launched a €300,000 crowdfunding campaign last month to bolster working capital.

Existing orders will still be shipped, but the company’s website is temporarily down for maintenance. Mud Jeans employed 11-50 people and had 40 associated members.
