Swedish EV maker Polestar reports a 4% year-over-year decline in Q2 sales as U.S. restrictions threaten future revenue.

Polestar posted Q2 2026 retail sales of 17,296 vehicles, down 4% from 18,026 in the same period last year. The decline comes as the company prepares to exit the U.S. market starting with the 2027 model year due to software restrictions under the Commerce Department’s Connected Vehicle Rule.

First-half 2026 sales reached 30,423 cars, a marginal 0.4% increase from the prior year. Excluding certain tracked sales, the half-year figure rose 3.1% to 28,562 vehicles, while Q2 sales in that subset fell 3.9% to 16,175 cars. The company’s retail network expanded 39% year-over-year to 235 sites.

Polestar confirmed existing U.S. inventory of the Polestar 3 and 4 will remain available, but the ban disrupts long-term growth plans. Volvo Cars, a sister brand, secured U.S. authorization ahead of Polestar’s denied request.
