Direxion’s QQQE ETF cuts top-heavy exposure by equally weighting Nasdaq-100 stocks, lowering reliance on megacap tech.
The Direxion NASDAQ-100 Equal Weighted Index ETF (QQQE) addresses concentration risks in the Invesco QQQ ETF (QQQ) by equally weighting its holdings. QQQ’s top 10 stocks currently account for 45% of the fund, a figure expected to grow with additions like SpaceX and potential future listings such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
In the traditional market-cap-weighted Nasdaq-100, technology comprises 66% of the portfolio, with consumer discretionary at 18%. The equal-weighted QQQE reduces tech exposure to 39% and allocates at least 8% to five other sectors. This structure limits the top 10 holdings to 10% of the fund at rebalance, mitigating volatility tied to megacap performance.
The shift aims to diversify within the tech sector without abandoning it, offering a potential alternative for investors concerned about overconcentration in a handful of stocks.
