PBR secures a 50% interest in the Itaimbezinho exploration block, aiming to bolster its exploration pipeline amid production declines.
Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras (PBR) agreed to acquire a 50% stake in the Itaimbezinho exploration block in Brazil’s Campos Basin from Equinor. The deal, pending regulatory approval, leaves Equinor with the remaining 50% and operational control.
The acquisition aligns with Petrobras’ 2026-2030 Business Plan, which emphasizes exploration and strategic partnerships to offset declines in mature fields. The Campos Basin remains a focus despite industry attention on pre-salt fields, with new technologies driving long-term production growth.
Petrobras and Equinor have existing collaborations, including the Raia gas development, and the deal aims to leverage technical synergies and shared capital requirements across adjacent assets.
