Comcast surges after announcing a tax-free spinoff of NBCUniversal, while AT&T and Verizon decline on leadership changes and market shifts.

Comcast shares climbed 7% to $24.76 after unveiling plans to split into two standalone companies, separating its media and connectivity businesses. The tax-free spinoff of NBCUniversal and Sky aims to unlock value for shareholders, driving the rally in midday trading.

AT&T stock fell 5% to $21.52 following CFO Pascal Desroches’ retirement announcement and a downgrade by a Wall Street analyst citing rising competition from Starlink. Verizon shares dropped 7% to $43.29 after being removed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average, adding to sector pressure.

Both AT&T and Verizon trade at single-digit P/E ratios, below analyst targets, as satellite-broadband competition intensifies. The divergent moves reflect distinct catalysts reshaping the telecom and media landscape.
