AMD announces a five-year £2 billion commitment to expand UK AI infrastructure, including two supercomputers for scientific research.
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) will invest up to £2 billion in the UK over five years to bolster AI infrastructure. The funding targets research collaborations, ecosystem partnerships, and deployments of AMD’s Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and ROCm software.
The investment includes support for two AI supercomputers at the University of Cambridge: Zenith AI, funded by the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and Sunrise, backed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Both systems aim to advance healthcare, climate modeling, and engineering research.
AMD CEO Lisa Su announced the plan during London Tech Week, emphasizing the company’s focus on AI-driven scientific and industrial applications. The initiative aligns with broader UK government efforts to expand national AI capabilities.
