S&P Dow Jones Indices announced Alphabet will join the Dow Jones Industrial Average on June 23, replacing Verizon Communications. The move reflects ongoing adjustments to the index’s 30 components, which have seen seven changes since 2020, including additions like Amazon, Nvidia, and Salesforce, and deletions such as Intel and ExxonMobil.

The Dow’s composition shifts aim to better represent evolving market sectors. Alphabet’s inclusion underscores its growing influence in technology and communications, while Verizon’s removal highlights the index’s pivot away from traditional telecom stocks. Recent additions have favored high-growth sectors like AI and cloud computing.

SpaceX, though recently public, is cited as a potential future candidate for the Dow due to its dominance in commercial space launches and expansion into satellite broadband and AI. The company conducted 82% of U.S. space launches, positioning it as a leader in its industry.
