SpaceX buys wireless spectrum licenses for $17 billion
SpaceX spent nearly $20 billion on wireless spectrum licenses over two years.
The company bought AWS-4 and H-block spectrum licenses from EchoStar for about $17 billion, and later added $2.6 billion for AWS-3 spectrum.
The purchase signals a bigger plan, potentially disrupting the country’s largest wireless carriers.
The acquired spectrum is suitable for a standalone mobile network, differing from SpaceX’s existing wireless business model.
