The bid for Thorne, growing at 30 percent annually, marks Unilever’s latest push into the high-margin wellness sector.
Unilever is considering a $4 billion offer for Thorne, a U.S. supplements brand, as part of its strategy to expand in the wellness market. The proposed deal would value Thorne at more than five times the $680 million L Catterton paid in 2023, reflecting strong revenue growth under private equity ownership.
Thorne, founded in 1984, is projected to generate $650 million in annual revenue, with compounded annual growth exceeding 30 percent since L Catterton’s takeover. Rival consumer healthcare group Haleon has also submitted a bid, though neither company has confirmed details.
Unilever’s wellness unit, which includes recent acquisitions like Liquid IV and Nutrafol, reported double-digit revenue growth in 2025. CEO Fernando Fernandez has prioritized beauty and wellness since taking the role in March, though a separate food division merger with McCormick earlier this year triggered a 7 percent share price drop.
