S&P Dow Jones Indices adds Alphabet to the Dow before June 29, 2026, citing its $350 stock price and sector representation.
Alphabet will enter the Dow Jones Industrial Average on June 29, 2026, replacing Verizon Communications. The change reflects Alphabet’s higher stock price of around $350, compared with Verizon’s $47, aligning with the index’s price-weighted methodology.
Verizon’s weighting in the Dow had dwindled to roughly 0.5%, a consequence of its lower share price. The index prioritizes nominal stock prices over market capitalization, giving pricier shares greater influence. Alphabet’s inclusion also consolidates the presence of the five largest U.S. tech firms in the benchmark.
Alphabet’s stock rose about 1% in after-hours trading following the announcement. No changes had been made to the Dow since November 2024, when Nvidia and Sherwin-Williams were added.
